Following retirement from the USPHS service, Janice Byrd came to Big Spring in 1985 and has been an active member of St. Mary's ever since.  She was born and raised a West Texas Episcopalian and is a graduate of Texas Woman's University.  She is currently the Director of Food and Nutrition at Big Spring State Hospital and also works as a contract dietitian for the West Texas Dialysis Clinic.  She has been involved in community activities such as Isaiah 58, Salvation Army Thanksgiving, American Heart Fund, Relay for Life, Big Spring State Hospital Volunteers, Special Olympics, and Habitat for Humanity and also visits the sick and homebound.  She is divorced and the mother of two daughters and the grandmother of four, all of whom live in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  She joined the deacon formation group in 1999, was ordained October 27, 2002 and completed the program in May 2003.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Connie Fowler was born in Southwest Louisiana in 1943 and was raised a Roman Catholic.  She received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1965.  She moved to Big Spring in 1985 and was received into the Episcopal Church in 1990.  In 1992, she received a Masters of Science Degree in Nursing Administration from the University of Texas at El Paso.  She worked for the Federal Government for 20 years and retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs in 1999.  She is currently employed part time as a staff nurse at the Big Spring State Hospital.  She entered Deacon Formation classes in 1999 and was ordained Deacon on October 27, 2002.  She is active in providing food for the poor through Isaiah 58, the Salvation Army, and Food for the Poor.  She is also the representative from St. Mary's to the Diocesan Episcopal Relief and Development Committee.  She is a widow and an avid golfer. She joined the deacon formation group in 1999, was ordained October 27, 2002 and completed the program in May 2003.

 

          

                   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

John Marshall was born in 1946 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He attended Westminster College in Salt Lake City and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1968.  That same year, he joined the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam from 1970 to 1972.  He attended the University of Houston's School of Optometry and graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1979.  He is currently in private professional practice in Big Spring and has done so since 1979.  He is married to Cynthia Marshall and they have two grown children.  He joined the deacon formation group in 1999, was ordained October 27, 2002 and completed the program in May 2003.
